The Esoteric Whale
The Esotericist – Movie Trailer

Sometime later this year, Sunshine Cleaning is coming out in theatres across America. Have a look at that trailer. We have a single mom here, living with her deadbeat sister and aging father. She’s having an affair with a married man, with whom she meets in motel rooms for sex, and he is not about to commit to an open relationship with her. What happens when she takes control of her life and finds fulfilling work?
I’m going to go out on a short limb here and say that the trailer is geared (or girled, a word I just made up) towards women who experience moments of feeling unempowered. Thanks to her new work, the title character is happy and finally sorting out her own life. Her sister is coming to terms with her own lack of activity, and her father is engaged in helping his daughter out. Everyone is doing better thanks to her success. By extension, any single woman who is able to make it with work will find satisfaction in life, because financial success will make her free to make her own decisions.
As a man, here’s a blanket statement for you: women will love this movie. Sure, it’s rated R, but so is life. Single mothers, mothers at home, and women in general will like the idea that a girl can get somewhere in life. Even with the odds stacked against her, perserverence and ingeniuty will her somewhere. The general quirky nature of the story and dialogue are bound to attract a bunch of male deviants like myself, too. And the title is so happy.

This comic is fresh off the metaphoric grill, as they say in France. With all the server hangups I have been having, I realized that a little perspective was in order. I hope you like — this is more along the lines of what I’ve been doing recently.
Here is a clip of what I’m working on at my real job. Don’t expect anything dazzling — just a bit of motion graphics for a high-school level golfing class.
